Maryland Federation of Art (MFA) will invite all MFA Members residing in any of the states or territories of the US, Canada, and Mexico to enter our Fall Member Show 2024. Any original 2D or 3D work will be considered. Works selected by the juror will be exhibited in MFA’s Circle Gallery from September 25 – October 12, 2024.
Founded by Margery E. Goldberg, Zenith began at Zenith Square, a 50,000 square-foot complex, established by Goldberg to serve as an affordable haven for artists to work, live and share their art. The gallery moved from its original location on Rhode Island Avenue NW near 14th Street in 1986 to 413 Seventh Street NW, where it remained until April 2009.
Since opening our doors in 1978, Zenith has established deep roots in the nation’s capital and with artists and collectors across America. Throughout it’s history they’ve pushed boundaries and broken ground with an ever-changing selection of paintings, sculpture, neon, photographs, tapestries and mixed-media pieces that stimulate, engage and have profoundly enhanced their clients’ residential, corporate and public-space environments.
For 45 years, Zenith Gallery’s founder and director, Margery E. Goldberg, has been placing art in public, private, and corporate collections throughout the Washington DC tri-state area. Zenith Consulting is a full service entity of the gallery that provides experience and expertise in placing art with corporations, institutions, and residences.
Margery makes art because that is who she is. She’s known this since she was 10 when she started sculpture classes at Rochester Memorial Art Gallery. At GWU she was an art major. After college in 1973, she was one of the first females in America with a complete woodworking studio. Her work sold even before she graduated college and she has not looked back since. For over 45 years her obsession for the medium has not waned. She thinks of trees as our ancestors and family. Trees can live without people, but people cannot live without trees. Trees are our partners on this planet, without trees there would be no shelter, books, habitats for our entire ecosystem including the air we breathe. Exotic and domestic hardwoods are my medium. Laminating and carving are my process. The result is sensuous, warm and unique, tactile and inviting. Each tree and the wood therein are unique, like humans no two are alike. Whether she carves a single piece of wood or laminates the wood for sculpture and furniture, carve, fabricate from logs or combined with neon, like the ancient carvers, She lets the spirit out of the wood. She considers herself a wood whisperer.
NOTE: Should Circle Gallery or any other exhibition space be closed for reasons beyond our control, MFA reserves the right to move a planned physical exhibit to our online gallery.
